How much do you value your home and the safety of your family? Do you want to make it the safest place in the world for your loved ones? If so, then an armored door is one of the best investments you can make. Armored doors are designed to protect against break-ins and other threats such as fire or natural disasters. They offer a variety of benefits which will be discussed in detail in this article.

Armored door models

There are many types of armored doors, each with its own characteristics. They generally come in different colors and styles to match the interior design of your home. The four most common models are shown below:

Armored door block

This model is made entirely of steel armor, with no wooden frame inside. The frame and the door are one. It offers the best protection against burglary and is recommended for high security applications. Closing systems and the keys are optimized and tamper-proof.

Armored door with frame

This model features a wooden frame covered with steel armor. It offers good protection against break-ins, but it is not as strong as the armored door model with frame.

Armored wooden door

This model combines a wooden frame with a steel frame. It is more fire resistant than the frame model and also offers good protection against break-ins.

Frameless armored door

This type of door uses an exterior metal plate as shielding, instead of an interior wooden or metal frame. It is therefore lighter, but less resistant to break-ins.

The level of security of armored doors

Burglars are able to open any door, but in how long? The more armored the door, the longer it will take to open and therefore the break-in will also be more dangerous. It is essential to choose an armored door presenting an A2P label certification, which tells you the level of security it offers. The label has a number from one to three and is in two parts:

Shield rating

This part indicates the number of minutes a burglar would need to force your door if he had no tools or weapons at his disposal (with an ax for example). This value is set by the French safety standardization body, the CNPP (National Center for Prevention and Protection).

Resistance index

This part indicates the number of minutes a burglar would need to force your door if he had all the necessary tools and weapons (with an ax for example). This value is also set by the CNPP.

A-rated doors offer the best possible protection, but they are also the most expensive.

A2P categories

  • A2P1 or A2P BP1 : resistance of 5 mins
  • A2P2 or A2P BP2 : resistance of 10 mins
  • A2P3 or A2P BP3 : resistance of 15 mins

Choosing an armored door can be a difficult task. There is no one-size-fits-all solution and choosing between different models and security levels will depend on your needs. This article has given you some indications which should help you make your choice depending on the type of armored door
